"This place is great value and high quality. We have tried several sushi places around eastern suburbs and this is now our favorite. The sushi rolls are huge and so for the price it’s far more generous than any other place we have been. And they were very good. We had the salmon cream cheese roll, the volcano maki which came out hot and has some sort of melted cheese and crab thing going on with cooked salmon and it was delicious, then 2 spicy tuna rolls, soft shell crab roll and the Hawaiian roll. Definitely will be back. It was Mother’s Day so I know there was a surcharge but 4 people, 6 rolls, 4 cokes equaled $140."

"Food was great. Still yum. Still tasty. Still the quality expected. I’ve been coming on and off for over a decade all the way back from the old site, and safe to say they have always been great! Food taste alone, it’s 5 stars all the way! However, having been here across so many years, it’s noticeable things have changed. Has the owner changed I wonder. Or just post Covid inflation hit. I swear all the fish pieces and sushi were bigger before and now it’s a good portion smaller. Yes the foods still yum and great, but it’s now different. When it was gigantic back then, there’s the wow factor. There’s the omg this is the biggest piece of fish on a rice I had ever seen! I felt like the price was justified, I was wowed. But now, the pieces were noticeably smaller. The price I don’t think quite justifies anymore, seeing city prices but not in the city. The attention to detail also felt different. Did the chef change? Ie baby rolls, why are they all different heights now? The Tuna nigiri it’s breaking apart already? Service tonight was also a bit lacking compared to before, the servers were constantly hovering in kitchen. The waitress was great but it’s clear she had too much on as she’s being pulled left right and centre. At one point, the gentleman (who’s probably the owner) acknowledged our request for tea refill to subsequently have forgotten. Just small details I noticed have changed vs before. Sushi Tengoku has always got a special place in my heart. But tonight, I felt like that special feeling disappeared. Now it felt like just another sushi place, but expensive. But anyway. Great sushi place. If you are after some sushi. Can’t go wrong with sushi tengoku."

"This is an unassuming little place. It looks pretty humble from the outside and the decor is quite simple, but the food is great. We loved the gyoza and the chicken teriyaki. All the food was great though. Very fresh. We picked a few items at random and ended up with this delightful cooked salmon roll type thing. It would seem that even picking at random will yield good results here! I like the self-serve station they have for soy and wasabi. Service was pretty quick too."

"Food was spectacular. And I guess this is why people say don’t judge books by their cover. I have to admit, I didn’t expect something so magical going into this little restaurant. But once I did, every bite was something special, and not at too crazy or a price point. Something I found especially unique was the spicy tuna roll. That is one in a million. I do not know what other places makes it like this. Everyone always uses canned tuna, non fresh tuna. This place uses fresh tuna out of the fridge and stuffs all that meat into the roll. You get a mouthful of tuna, now that’s special. Beef sukayaki was a bit sweet, although I’m not too sure if that’s how Japanese people typically do it. Cups could be a bit bigger however, I don’t know how to hold water with such small cups."

"Totally blown away by the quality of the food! This is truly a hidden gem in the unsw area, great food and affordable price. I love their steak, hotpot and sushi. One of the best qualities tempura I’ve tried in Sydney. Highly recommend! They also have a promotion for students to get stamps for each $20 visit, and cash discount too. Great selection of wine is always a plus!"
